A serene hot spring inn set deep in forest on roughly 3,500 tsubo of land. Seven buildings hold 13 rooms scattered among lush, carefully tended greenery — natural and unforced in its beauty. Cedar-textured concrete walls blend seamlessly with the landscape, while soft, indirect lighting and natural wood create calm, understated interiors. Each room features floors of 日田石 (Hita stone, a local Oita Prefecture material that stays warm in winter and cool in summer), finished in monochrome for an elegant, gallery-like feel. Every guest room has its own 源泉掛け流し (spring-fed onsen bath).
Birdsong, rustling leaves, and gentle dappled light dissolve the boundary between indoors and out. The contrast between the modern, refined rooms and the natural world outside makes you feel the forest more acutely. If you would like to book additional nights, let us know and we can help.

One of Yufuin's "big three" celebrated inns — built from a Meiji-era farmhouse relocated from Niigata. Stone paths through forest, antiques sourced from around the world by the previous owner, and a library-like whisky bar centered around a legendary Western Electric 16A speaker (an audio collector's holy grail). The main hall is retro-modern, blending old-world character with contemporary refinement — a mix of East and West, tradition and innovation. Eight main buildings plus six villas, each entirely separate and distinctly different in layout and atmosphere. Also home to 空想の森 アルテジオ, the museum where the ceremony will be held.
The grounds include curated boutiques, a chocolate specialty shop, and exhibition spaces showcasing music-themed art and paintings, plus a library of roughly 1,000 books on music and visual art. A place to stay, shop, and linger all at once.

One of the original inns that defined what Yufuin would become. Beautiful, carefully tended gardens — in spring, flowers in terracotta pots line every path — and one of the finest onsen in the region. The interiors feel warm and considered.

Founded in 1921, one of Yufuin's celebrated "big three" — originally the private villa of Kumahachi Aburatsuyu, the father of Beppu tourism. Set on roughly 25,000 tsubo at the foot of Mt. Yufu (豊後富士, Bungo Fuji), with the lake 金鱗湖 at its edge. Villas and the main house are scattered across grounds where trees over 200 years old stand beside moss-covered gardens; wherever you wander, you're enveloped in natural beauty that shifts with the seasons.
Recently renovated: Villa 5 (2024, March) now features a western-style bedroom with 源泉掛け流し (spring-fed) outdoor bath. Villa 7 (2024, October) expanded from two rooms to a spacious 140-square-meter two-bedroom with hinoki (cypress) indoor bath, modern Nordic furniture, and a wooden deck overlooking the garden. Onsen bar 湯の岳庵 draws visitors from across Japan. A place that carries its history lightly—modern in its comforts, timeless in its hospitality. Book well in advance.

A 古民家 inn — a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese farmhouse — at a more accessible price point. Well-located, quiet, with good onsen. A lovely option if you're staying a few extra nights and want something with character without the splurge. Good for groups (has rooms with up to 8 people).

A 農場直結 (farm-connected) auberge that opened in spring 2023, built on the philosophy of 地産地消 (local production, local consumption). Perched on a high terrace overlooking Mt. Executive Chef Tashi Jamtsho, who spent four years as sous chef at Michelin two-star Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York, oversees both the expansive organic 農場 (farm) and the daily menu. The farm cultivates over 35 varieties of organic vegetables across 200+ items. Each morning, Chef Tashi harvests what's freshest and builds the day's menu around it—vegetables so flavorful and concentrated you taste the depth of Yufuin's soil in every bite.
Meals might include morning-picked zucchini, cucumber juice, chilled corn soup, and housemade bread studded with vegetables. The outdoor 露天風呂 (open-air bath) flows into an infinity pool where you can soak while the landscape dissolves around you. Every season brings different produce, so every visit tastes new.
